Writing is a Medicine: Using Metaphor to Engage Reluctant Writers

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Students use metaphor in their daily lives without even realizing, and they may use them in writing through tired clichés that lack meaning or depth. On the other hand, reluctant writers stray from the abstract, even though they may have the most compelling stories to tell. So, how can those narratives progress to the page? In this session, participants will engage in scaffolding activities, create unique metaphors, and consider strategies for implementing metaphor into their own classrooms for a wide array of writers and learners. Grades 6 – 12
